Situated on the Mae Ping River and affectionately known as the Rose of the North, Thailand’s second largest city is an interesting contrast to other regions of the country. The history, the cuisine, the culture and the cooler climate make it a great stand alone destination as well as a useful base for exploring the north.
After sunset the night market is an absolute must to find your souvenirs, handicrafts, fake goods, textiles, and other knick-knacks. With its walls and moat the old city is another of Chiang Mai’s major attractions & is a great example of Thailand in a by gone era.
With direct flights to many of the southern resorts, Chiang Mai can be easily incorporated as a side trip to any holiday to Thailand and is a must for those seeking a little slice of the true Thailand.
