We often get asked for our impressions of ‘the Gili Islands’ – but having (literally) walked around all 3 of these car less islands inspecting as many hotels, restaurants and beachfront bars our response is always that “each island has a character of it’s own”. And generally it is fair to say that Gili Meno comes closest to most people’s expectations of how they imagine these 3 beautiful islands to be.
Without the crowds of neighbouring Trawangan (yet close enough to jump a boat across when you feel you need a livelier night out) Gili Meno is a pristine hotel built with a real sense of purpose, community spirit, and definite style. The owner David is ever present and has a real pride in his hotel and the restaurant which pre-dated the hotel. Rooms are pristine, fairly plain with a deliberate lack of televisions – which makes utter sense when you appreciate the stars at night, or the underwater entertainment at ‘Turtle Point’ handily right in front of the hotel.
Perhaps best avoided if you are looking for parties, crowds and perfect wifi, Mahamaya is absolutely the place to be if you require peace, long empty beaches, lovely walks and serenity!
