Siem Reap

There is no denying the fact that, were it not for one of the most extensive and impressive collection of ancient temples (over 300 at the last count & more being discovered almost every year) in all of Asia or in fact the world, Siem Reap would hardly ever have seen a foreign visitor. But this charming little town has so much more to offer than just a base to explore the temples of Angkor. Some of the best value dining in the region can be found in the legions of small cafes, restaurants and exclusive eateries. A personal favourite is just enjoying a cold Angkor Beer on a café veranda and watching the world go by.

The temples however will always be the main draw and, believe me, there is nothing that we can say that hasn’t been said before or that will ever do justice to simply one of the most breathtaking experiences that you are ever likely to have.

At a push, two days would be enough to get a taste of the hidden treasures of Angkor but the longer the better if you really want to understand the sheer size of what many consider the eighth wonder of the world and we heartily recommend that you schedule in at least half a day just to enjoy the town of Siem Reap itself.
