When Bali was truly a ‘hot’ destination, and south coast resorts became overrun by surfers, backpackers and charter flights, those seeking the quieter side of Bali started moving further afield.
The East Coast had previously been mostly noted for the regular ferries into Lombok from Padangbai, but the nearby towns of Candidasa and Manggis slowly started attracting more tourists, and a small number of local hotels were built to complement the large number of excellent seafood restaurants.
The East Coast is now largely devoid of tourists, meaning you have every possibility of relative solitude in your hotel whilst the excellent food remains!
Slightly rougher seas mean that the hotel pools will remain your main ‘lounging’ areas, but with a number of quiet local temples and attractions, we heartily recommend that you make the short journey to see for yourself. |
