Even regular Indo-fanatics would be hard-pressed to pick out Wakatobi on a map, but this world-class dive resort has increasingly been making waves, if you’ll excuse the deliberate pun, amongst the global dive community.
Located in the Wakatobi Archipelago off the south-east coast off Sulawesi, the resort is accessible by a new weekly air charter from Bali to a purpose built airfield. This is a welcome relief from the 5 day boat journey that was previously needed to access this remote chain of islands.
The most pertinent question concerns the location – why build a luxury resort when most tourists barely make it past Bali? Well, simply, Wakatobi is surrounded by some of the most outstanding diving in the world – and regularly credited with having the worlds best house reef. Unsurprisingly given the remote location, the host of dive sites are devoid of other divers, and the range of options will easily satisfy the most demanding of divers. |
